(Ignore the reference to New Year’s Day being tomorrow. I thought I had scheduled this post to publish at our normal 10am but I apparently missed a step. Happy new year everyone!)
When we started this blog 100ish weeks ago, 2026 seemed so far away. Tomorrow it will be here. 2026 will be a hectic year of change, and hopefully excitement, for us! But first, we have to survive a kitchen renovation!
Chaos everywhere we look
First, you should know that Steph is very much the “a place for everything and everything in its place” kind of person. Clutter and chaos stress her out.
Right now, she is stressed. Everything in the kitchen cabinets is being moved into the living room in preparation for the kitchen renovation, which starts this weekend.
Well, technically it started last weekend. We cleaned out the garage and did some organizing.
That freed up some shelves we moved into the house. As we started emptying cabinets, we sorted things into categories. If we thought we would use it before we moved, it went on the shelves. If not, it went in a box (or the donation pile).
Over the next few days, we will empty every cabinet.
This weekend, Steph will paint the ceiling. After the cabinets are painted (by a professional, we know our limits!), she will come back and paint the walls. The countertops should be ready somewhere in the middle of the process.
The goal is to have a completed kitchen renovation by the end of January, hopefully sooner.
We’ll keep posting updates each week as we go through the process. This is the last major project we have on the list. We’re excited to see the final result!
