Steph here. We made it to Costa Rica! I’m currently sitting in the lobby of our hotel typing while the group finishes breakfast. This won’t be a long post because we plan to hit the road in about half an hour to head to Mal Pais.

I did want to jot down a couple of notes from our traveling day yesterday. Every time we travel, we learn new things.
Size matters
For this trip, we learned that bigger isn’t always better, at least when it comes to suitcases. We bought a large (28 inch) suitcase for this trip. As we were packing, we were amazed at all the extra room we had to pack things. We could actually get everything we wanted to pack in that one suitcase for the both of us. It was glorious!

Until we weighed it. The problem with a large suitcase is that you can go over the 50 pound luggage limit pretty easily. In the end, we had to take quite a few items out of our suitcase and put them in our backpacks. That left empty space in the suitcase, so we had to shuffle things a bit so that everything wouldn’t shift around in transit. In hindsight, we would buy a suitcase one size smaller.
Lounges for the win
The trip was the first trip where we maximized our lounge time. We started with the new Escape Lounge at the Kansas City Airport. It opened three weeks ago and was located right next to our gate. We used our Priority Pass to get us and two guests in for breakfast. The food was good and the service was exceptional.

Once we got to Miami, we had a long layover, so we had lunch in the Turkish Airways lounge. It wasn’t as nice as the one in KCI and it was MUCH busier, but the food and drinks were decent (and free).
All told, except for two cups of coffee before we boarded the flight, we didn’t pay a dime for any food or drinks the whole day. Priority Pass was a perk that came with our Capital One Venture X credit card, and it has been a game changer.
Our rental car just pulled up, so off we go! We’ll post pictures from our Airbnb and our trip on our Facebook page! (Dad, I’ll text you pictures :-)). Bye!!
