Our house is sinking. The front of our house is ½” lower than the back. That may not sound like much, but if our house could talk, it would tell you different.
Luckily, there are companies that will jack your house up and fix the leaks, and we have scheduled that to happen in the next few weeks.
But before they can jack up the front of the house, they have to be able to get to the front of the house from the inside.
Yeah, that’s a problem.
To repair the foundation, they have to be able to get to the foundation. We could have moved everything out of that corner into other areas of the basement to give the workers access to that corner, but why do that when you can kill two birds with one stone?
You know I (Steph) love a good clean out. We had a three-day weekend and a dumpster. I was practically giddy with excitement.
As with most clean out projects, this went much more quickly than we thought it would. It turns out, when you throw most of the stuff away, the process moves fast. It still took us four days, because we chose to only work a few hours at a time. Hauling large items to the dumpster is hard work, but it is also really dirty work. We aren’t spring chickens anymore. We had the dumpster until Tuesday, so there was no reason to overwork ourselves.
We did list a few things for sale and put a bunch of stuff on our local Buy Nothing group, but the bulk of it went into the dumpster.
This is the last large area that needed to be cleaned out. Now we can honestly say that our closets, attics, garages and basement only contain the things that we need to use in the next few years, or things that will go to our friends and family at the end of the countdown.
With large scale clean out finished, what is next? On tap for the fall and winter are the basement foundation work and more of Steph painting the honey oak trim white. In the spring – kitchen remodeling! Don’t worry, we’re hiring that one out. A small bathroom remodel almost killed us!
