Nomading: T-Minus 80 Weeks. 1/3 of the way there!

Welcome to week 80! We’re a third of the way through our plan, can you believe it? 40 weeks of blog posts have gone by so much more quickly than we expected. It turns out time flies when you’re having fun!

40 down, 80 to go…

As we are one third of the way to our final goal, we thought it would be a good time to check in on our project list to see where we are. If you remember from Week 112, this was the project list:

How it started…

We’ve accomplished several things on the list so far. Some were fun, like cleaning out the closets (remember that time our closets exploded all over our living room?). Some are hard, like painting all the woodwork, and some we have hired out, like the foundation/concrete repair we will be writing about in next week’s blog post.

Here are a few pictures of our progress so far in the last 40 weeks.

Closets – check!
One bathroom down, two to go
What a bear to paint, but so worth it!

The list is always in flux

There are a few things that have changed on the list. As we’ve worked through our plan over the last 40 weeks, we’ve revised our painting goals. So far, we’ve painted the entire upstairs (minus one door frame), all stairways, and half of the living room (yes, half).

Before – the whole room is navy
After – this part of the room is gray with white trim
And the back wall that runs from the front door to the back of the house is still navy. Yes, it’s on the list

In talking it through over the last few months, we have decided not to paint the basement. We determined that it is a natural break in the flow of the house, whereas the rest of the house does have an open enough floorplan that the paint needs to be cohesive. Also, it is a basement, so the expectations are different in a finished basement space. Eliminating that painting project will save us so much time and effort.

We are also adding a few things to the list. On the recommendation of our real estate agent, we are going to replace the floor in the basement (there goes all that time we saved by not painting!). We also are replacing all of the windows in the house. We replaced half of them about a year and a half ago, and we’re having the rest replaced hopefully by the end of 2024.

But overall, we’re killing it!

To recap, here is where we are on the project list:

How it’s going…

All in all, we feel good about our progress so far. Out of 22 items, 10 are complete and several more are in process (painting, windows, kid’s bathroom remodel). We feel like we are on track to get everything done in time without killing ourselves to get it done. Barring any unforeseen setbacks, we should hit our goal with time to spare! Hoping we didn’t just jinx ourselves there!

What do you think of our progress so far? Do you like the gray paint and white trim or do you agree with the kid, who thinks it looks like a hospital? (Someone does NOT like change!)
